Library and other resources for parents

Please review our options for Parent & Student Resources below:

 

Clever.com/in/vusd - Oak Grove students can log in to their online textbooks as well as access the California public library system using their student "...@vusd.us" email account and password.  This is the same username and password students use to log in to our Chromebooks at school.  Choose "log in as a student" then "log in with Google."

 

Library resources: check out these great resources to help find appropriate books for your student:

1. Sora (or Overdrive) online e-books for your student through VUSD: Using your student's VUSD account through the Clever login, you can access thousands of e-books and audiobooks for your student.  You can also upgrade your account with your public library account, expanding their access!  Check out the Sora app for more information.

2. AR Bookfinder: Accelerated Reader is used in many of our classrooms to monitor student reading

3. Scholastic Book Wizard: Scholastic Publishing has organized the search tool to help you find books of interest, including sorting by genre and grade

 

  • ConnectSafely.org - As students get older, they often begin to get interested in social media and/or get a cell phone of their own.  ConnectSafely.org is a California-based nonprofit organization dedicated to educating users of connected technology about safety, privacy and security.  Their website includes research-based safety tips, parents’ guidebooks, advice, news and commentary on all aspects of tech use and policy.  There is no cost to use this website to research best resources for you and your family.

  • SaferKid.com - SaferKid app is a breakthrough child safety tool that allows you to see your child's text messages, web browsing history, phone call history and phone contacts. Phone call history is available on Android only. To keep trust in your family, your kids will know that you have SaferText, and you can gradually disable its features as kids get older to give them more privacy.  There is a cost to this app.

  • Ourpact.com - OurPact’s parental control and family locator was designed with the busy family in mind. Our parental control app and family locator work cross-platform for iOS and Android parent and child devices, on WiFi and cellular networks.  There is a cost to this app.

  • MissingKids.org - The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children website is the nation's clearinghouse and comprehensive reporting center for all issues related to the prevention of and recovery from child victimization.  NCMEC leads the fight against abduction, abuse, and exploitation - because every child deserves a safe childhood.  There is no cost to use this website to research best resources for you and your family.
