1. Oak Grove PTA – Have you been wanting to get more involved at Oak Grove?  PTA has open positions and needs your help!  Please see the attached flier for more details.
2. Grade 6-8 Activity – This Friday, April 24, is our “April Activity” for Oak Grove students in Grades 6 – 8, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm.  There will be games, food trucks, and other activities.  See the attached flier.
3. “Owls Dine Out” – Our next PTA “Owls Dine Out” is Wednesday, April 22, from 11 am to 10 pm at Red Robin at 2015 S. Mooney Blvd.  Please see the linked flier for more info.  Thank you!
4. Grade 7 – 8 Parents – Our Grade 8 Promotion Ceremony planning meeting is next Thursday, April 30, at 2:45 pm in Rm 106.  All parents, particularly in Grades 7 and 8, are encouraged to attend so we can discuss setup, decorations, food, and more, for the event.  Grade 8 Promotion is Friday, June 5, at 8:30 am in our Courtyard.
5. Grade 6 SCICON Info Night – Grade 6 students and their parents are invited to our “Grade 6 SCICON Information Night” on Monday, April 27, at 5:30 pm in the Cafeteria.  This is a great way for parents and Grade 6 students to learn more about SCICON Week, ask questions of the SCICON staff member, and more.
6. Advanced Band/Orchestra Concert – The Advanced Band/Advanced Orchestra Spring Concert is next Thursday, April 30, at 5:30 pm in the Cafeteria.  Doors will open around 5 pm or so.
7. Open House and Spring Performance - The Oak Grove Open House and Spring Performance is Tuesday, May 26, at 5:30 pm.  Mark your calendar for this fun event!  More information to follow.
8. State testing incentives – As state testing begins soon in Science, ELA, and Math, we have organized incentives for our students in Grades 3 – 8 to show focus, put forth effort, and do their best work each day.  Each day of testing, students can earn “raffle tickets” to earn small prizes donated by our generous and hardworking Oak Grove PTA.  Some of the prizes may include spicy snacks and/or sports drinks, along with sports equipment, art supplies, and games.  If you would prefer that your student not receive spicy snacks or sports drinks, please email Mr. Hambleton at thambleton@vusd.org   Thank you!

Unfortunately, some Oak Grove students’ e-scooters were stolen from our bike rack area today.  The affected students’ families have been notified, and I have contacted the Visalia Police Department and a report was made.  If you have any information related to this incident, please contact our school office.

While we certainly do NOT blame the students who were the victims of this crime, here are a few reminders about bikes and scooters, and e-bikes and e-scooters.

• Always send your student with a lock so their bike or scooter can be secured in our bike rack area.
• Only students who have a current driver’s license or permit may ride an e-scooter.  That means there should be no e-scooters at Oak Grove.
• Helmets are required for all students under age 18 for all types of bikes, scooters, e-bikes and e-scooters.
• E-bikes and e-scooters should generally be ridden on the streets, not the sidewalks.  This will make the sidewalks safer for pedestrians.
• Please see the attached fliers for more information from our Visalia Police Department.

1. Teacher Appreciation Week – Thank you to our Oak Grove PTA and to the many students and families for celebrating and appreciating our teachers and staff this week.  We are grateful to work in such a wonderful and supportive community!
2. School spirit day – This Friday is an “Anything But a Backpack” ASB school spirit dress up day.  ASB students have visited classrooms this week to talk with students about how this works.

1. Grade 5-6 concert – Our Grade 5-6 Band, Choir, and Orchestra concerts are this Monday, April 13, in our Cafeteria.  Grade 6 starts at 8:25, and Grade 5 at 9:20 am.  Please see attached flier for details.

4. 1. Conference schedule – We will have 12:30 pm dismissal days for all Oak Grove students continuing tomorrow, Thursday, March 12, through Monday, March 16. 
2. State Science, ELA, and Math testing – Oak Grove students in Grades 3 – 8 will take state tests in Science, ELA, and Math this spring.  Please take a few minutes to review the attached letter which includes our testing dates and help we need from our families to ensure our students are present and ready each day.  Thank you!
3. English Learning testing - English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) testing will begin the week of March 16 for our English Language learner students.  This assessment measures how well students understand and use English in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  Please help your EL student to be prepared by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast each morning, so they are ready to do their best.

Book Fair - The Oak Grove Book Fair will be Monday, February 23, through Friday, February 27, and will be open 7:45 am to 3 pm each day.  To limit cash, we encourage all parents to purchase gift cards for use by their student.  Book purchases can also be made online at: https://literati.com/store/?school=oak-grove-elementary-school-visalia-ca   Please see the attached flier for details.
2. Volunteers needed - We need parent volunteers to run our Book Fair!  All volunteers get a 20% book fair discount. We're using SignUp.com to organize our upcoming event: https://signup.com/go/ZufAwsi; please see the attached flier for details.
3. Grade 6 registration for middle school – Parents of Grade 6 students – please mark your calendars for middle school registration night for you and your Grade 6 student at Ridgeview Middle School on Thursday, February 12 at 5:30 pm.  Please bring a Chromebook, and there will be food trucks too.  See the attached flier for details.
4. Presidents Day – There is no school this Monday, February 16, in honor of Presidents Day.  School resumes on Tuesday, February 17.
5. Grade 8 registration for Redwood HS – Counselors from Redwood HS will visit Grade 8 classrooms on Tuesday, February 17.  Be sure to talk with your Grade 8 students and review their choices using their Chromebook for Grade 9 classes with them after this date.

1. Young Authors’ Faire – We will have an informational meeting tomorrow, January 27, at 2:45 pm in Room 901.  Young Authors’ Faire is a creative writing competition open to students in Grades K – 8.  Please see the attached flier for more information or talk with Mrs. Chance or Mrs. Acosta.
2. E-scooter safety rules – Parents - Did you know that anyone under 18 is required by law to wear a helmet when riding an electronic scooter, and must hold a valid driver’s license or permit?  And that they can only be ridden on the roads like bicycles – not on sidewalks?  If your student rides an e-scooter, please take a few minutes to review the attached information sheet with them to ensure their safety, as well as the safety of students and families who use our sidewalks.
3. Minimum day – Reminder that tomorrow, January 26, is a 12:30 pm dismissal day for all students.
4. “Willy Wonka, Jr. ”– Our middle school musical is this Friday, January 30.  The public performance is at 5:30 pm in the Cafeteria and is for families and friends; Oak Grove students in TK – Grade 8 will be able to attend a performance during the school day.  This is a free performance and does not require tickets.  The gate will open between 5:00 and 5:30 pm, once our performers are ready.
5. PTA meeting – The next meeting of our Oak Grove PTA is Tuesday, February 3, at 5:30 pm in Room 106.  All are invited!
6. PTA “Parents and Pastries” – Our Oak Grove PTA “Parents and Pastries” is Friday, February 6, from 7 to 8 am in our Cafeteria.  This is a free event, sponsored by PTA!  See attached flier for details.

1. School spirit dress up day – This Friday, January 23, is a “Twin Day” for ASB/school spirit.  Have fun and dress the same as one or more of your classmates!
2. Grade 7-8 movie night – Our “Grade 7-8 Movie Night” is this Friday, January 23, from 5 to 8:30 pm in the Oak Grove courtyard.  There will be free popcorn and hot chocolate, but students can pay for items from food trucks.  Because the movie is rated PG, all students will need a signed parent permission slip to attend – see attached.
3. Grade 6 end of year event planning – Parents of Grade 6 students are invited to a planning meeting this Thursday, January 22, at 2:45 pm in Rm 106.  We will brainstorm ideas to celebrate our Grade 6 students as they move on to middle school this fall.

1. ASB Santagrams - Looking to spread some holiday cheer to a school friend?  Our ASB/Leadership class is selling Santagrams for $1 each starting next Monday, 12/15.  They are sold in the Cafeteria before school from 7:30 – 8 am.  See attached flier for more information.
2. ASB dress up day – Friday, December 19, is our next ASB school spirit dress up day to “Wear Red and Green, or your Comfiest Pajamas.”
